By: Heather Ferguson The Taj Mahal Restaurant in downtown Moncton is the place where East meets West, bringing the “Flavour of India” to our great city. Located at 882 Main Street, this fantastic new restaurant has already become a part of the cityscape, offering tantalizing new taste sensations in recipes that are, in fact, centuries old. Carrying a wide assortment of exotic East Indian dishes from all over the great continent of India, some popular items of their extensive menu are tandoori chicken, pakoras, curried fish, shrimp masala, beef curry, chicken vindaloo, butter chicken smothered in a spicy sauce, and accompanying favourites such as naan breads and basmati rice dishes. Desserts such as gulab jamun, pista kulfi, and mango kulfi are best sellers. As restaurant owners Mohinder Jit and Remi Singh say, “The use of spices enhances the natural flavours of our food. All our dishes are ‘mild’ to the taste, but we cook to order ‘hot’ if requested by the customer.” Indeed, mouth-watering fare is a result of the expert preparation of master chefs Shri Chand and Jaggit Singh, with 15 to 20 years of experience, they have been specially brought from India where they were employed at 5-star hotel restaurants. As Mohindir Jit says, “We use only the finest ingredients all carefully prepared by our talented chefs with long-standing East Indian traditions behind them.” Looking for a truly extraordinary dining experience?
